Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely example of one of the Pocket Editions of the various field exercise manuals released by the British Army in 1859, during the early Victorian period. There were several different types released, all with the same red cover, displaying the British Coat of arms, with text underneath:

FIELD EXERCISE
1859.
------
POCKET EDITION
------
BY AUTHORITY.

There is further information on the inside cover, though there was some type of label applied at one time, now partially removed, and it identifies this as THE FIELD EXERCISE AND MANUAL OF ARTILLERY EXERCISES. There is more information further down, and the manual appears to have been written or revised by the HORSE GUARDS, 1ST JANUARY, 1860. The manual gives detailed information on various drills and exercises to be performed by Artillery units in the British Army.

The manual is in very good condition, especially considering the age, though the pages have definitely yellowed a bit. It looks like at one point there was a brass closure installed on the open end of the book opposite the spine, however it is currently missing.

A great piece of Victorian Era British Militaria, ready to research and display!
